Book Week 2012

grand 1 grand 2The week went very well. Our starting point was a fantastic story telling session from the theatre company Travels with Granddad. The children were mesmerized by the tales that Granddad told as he waited for teddy to go back to sleep. The children have used those stories as the ideas for their own stories as well as items that Granddad left from his travels in the old battered suitcase.

bw 1 bk 2About half of the children came back to school on Thursday for ‘Book at Bedtime’ in their pyjamas and to have hot chocolate and marshmallows whilst listening to stories. It was lovely to see all of the children back in school and so interested in hearing stories. Thank you to some 16 parents who came back to read to the children. It is always good to have different role models and listening to different voices. KS2 also had a visit from Year 13 student from Marlwood who performed their own pantomime version of Jack and the Beanstalk. Whilst Year 1 and 2 children went to the cinema to see Brave. Once again the Book Fair has been a great success and popular with both children and parents. Thank you to everyone who came and bought their books. We sold £1,143 worth of books and will therefore receive approximately £450 to spend on new books for the children in school.
