Sports Day 2014

What a glorious day we had for our Sports Day. With the sun shining down we started our races with Key Stage 1. There was much cheering and applauding from the parents as the children ran down the track and around the field. Everyone tried their best to put the bean bags in the hoops, jump in the sack race, stay steady with their balls and spoons and then run as fast as they could in the sprint.

It was so good to see their enthusiasm, determination and for some the perseverance of completing the race. It was also lovely to see the other children encouraging and cheering their classmates and friends on to do well, or saying well done and helping each other. Each of the house teams tried hard to win but that honour went to Water with 148 points, followed by Air with 120 points, Sun with 101 Points and Earth on 99 points.

It was then Key Stage 2’s turn to come out and entertain the crowds in the afternoon. Once again we saw the start marked by our 4 best athletes running a lap of the field with the games torch followed by the oath being read to launch the games. All of the children entered into the sportsman spirit and ran, jumped and raced to the best of their abilities. It was a fantastic advertisement for school sports that are sometimes much maligned in the press. We are very proud of our children’s attitude towards each other and the whole experience of sports day. However, it is a competitive afternoon and once again the winning house was Water with a very impressive 221 points, followed by Sun on 140 points, Earth on 137 and Air on 106 points.

Well done to everyone for taking part so well, to Miss Moore for organising the events and the rest of the staff for their support. I am pleased that so many parents were also able to come along and support the children. I thoroughly enjoyed the toddler races as well as the parents egg and spoon races, as well as the teachers races (I am sure there was some who did hold their eggs!!) which were so fiercely contested!   Thank you to Mrs Searle and Barnes who provided refreshments for the day, with the proceeds going towards the new Community Arts Room.
