2015-2016

Here’s to another year of great sports and physical activity at Almondsbury C of E Primary School.

Almondsbury School continues to go from strength to strength. We were really pleased to achieve the GOLD SAINSBURY’S SCHOOL GAMES KITEMARK AWARD for 2014-2015 again last year. We were also one of 6 schools nominated for ‘Primary School of the Year’ at the South Gloucestershire PE and school sports award ceremony in November 2014.

Our school is so proud of and grateful for the wonderful support, hard work and enthusiasm the whole school community has towards PE and school sport. Thank you to everyone!

There were so many successes over the last year!

The athletics club is continuing to find and develop great talent with some children now competing at county level. The girls maintained 1st place in the cross country league and the boys 2nd place. We also got through to the county finals of quadkids at Bath University. The netball team continues to go from strength to strength winning the Colston School netball tournament with Tilly achieving player of the tournament. They had great success in the local netball league and many of the children also went to trials for the county netball squad. Y6 boys cricket team got through to the finals at Cheltenham College with many, many more successes…

The introduction of the school house point system has been thoroughly embedded throughout the school with the help of our school sports council. The children enjoyed participating in intra school competitions representing their houses and worked hard to gain house points over the year with each house winning the cup at least once.

The sports council began to trial lunchtime activities for the lower ks2 children using their own talents to develop dance routines and to model and lead a range of skills and activities in running. They also helped lead a range of sports events throughout the year and were great role models.

Our playground leaders continue to deliver wonderful opportunities enabling the KS1 children to participate in activities each lunchtime. 29 of the 35 children in year 5 committed to running activities one lunchtime a week over the whole year and celebrated with a great afternoon at Hollywood Bowl.

So what will 2015-2016 hold for PE and School Sport.

Please look at the attachments below to see our action plans showing how we plan to continue to grow the quality and opportunities of PE and School Sport for all the children at Almondsbury School and watch this space to see our wonderful children in action over the 2015-2016 school year.

With regards

Miss C Moore (PE coordinator)
