Miss Moore and Miss Winter's Class

We have had already had a wonderful start to the term with all the children settling well.

The children have began our topic 'London's Burning' with a great WOW day where they came dressed in fiery colours and worked in mixed groups with the other year 1 and year 1&2 classes. They made their own bread by mixing the ingredients and kneading the dough before putting it in to bake, just like they would have on Pudding Lane that fateful night in London.

They created paintings depicting the London skyline in silhouette with a fiery background.

Finally they worked in groups to recreate drip paintings in the style of Jackson Pollock, abstract images with fiery colours.

The children had a fantastic day and are already sharing out all sorts of amazing facts they have found out about the fire in London and how it spread.

Term 3 & 4

We hope you all had a lovely Christmas and New Year and welcome back.

Our term started off well with a wonderful WOW day. The children looked amazing in their victorian costumes not to mention all the members of staff. They had a wonderful day drawing pencil pictures of Isambard Kingdom Brunel and learning about the influence he has had on Bristol with Miss Sinclair.

They learned to play different Victorian playground games with Miss Webber.

Whilst in Miss Winter's classroom they were transferred back in time to a STRICT Victorian classroom. where they experienced the DUNCE hat and given a taste of what it was like to be at school in times gone past.

Problem Solving afternoon for Year 2

What a fantastic afternoon! With 45 children and around 24 parents, the hall was very busy with maths galore. There were number problems where children (and parents) had to use different strategies to solve the challenge.

Money problems to solve.

Measuring with rulers, straws, string and wool to solve problems.

...and finally, the challenge of directing the probots and beebots by executing algorithms and debugging them when they go wrong.

We created our dances using words and word phrases.

stretch, melt, flop, bounce, freeze

Balancing in a group and follow my leader.

ROAD SAFETY

On Monday 6 March, KS1 had road safety training. It was great fun and we learned how to stay safe on the roads. There were lots of fun things to see including a few amazing magic tricks. We learned how green was for safe, amber be ready and red was for stop. We found out the best place to cross a road and the best way to do it. And we found out the best colours to wear so that you can be seen. We didn't work out the magic though!

In Year 2, I've had a great time and i wish it wasn't over! I have loved being with Ms Moore and Ms Winter (especially when Ms Moore does PE and Ms Winter when she does RE and topic). I will miss all my class that are going into Mr Dean's class and wish them the best of luck! Sienna x
