Thank you to the parents and family members who joined us for the creative workshop. The children really enjoyed exploring the various activities with you and we hope you found it useful to gain an insight into how we teach creative subjects in Reception.

*Happy New Year!*

Welcome back to Term 3

This term our topic is Once Upon a Time. We will be learning about a different fairytale each week.

This week we had our wow day to launch our new topic. We all came to school dressed as our favourite characters.

We completed a story workshop based on the book The Jolly Postman. We learnt a song about Goldilocks and the 3 Bears, helped the giant from Jack and the Beanstalk by counting his eggs and gold coins, put shoes in size order for Cinderella and escaped from the wolf by using hoops as stepping stones to get across the hall. We had lots of fun. We also made our own magic wands and melting snowman biscuits.

* Term 2 - Let's Party! Our Celebration Topic *

The last 2 weeks at school have been very busy!

We performed our nativity production - Whoops-a-Daisy Angel to our friends and families. We all sang loudly whilst doing the actions, danced beautifully and said our lines clearly.

We all wrote letters to Father Christmas. Isla and Bodhi walked to the shop with Mrs Edwards to post them to the North Pole.

We had lots of fun at our Christmas party. We wore our party clothes, watched a magic show, had party food and Father Christmas bought presents to our classroom.

We made Christingles and learnt about what the different parts represent.

We performed a Christmas song with actions to the whole school during the Entertainment Afternoon.

We went on our Christmas school trip to Old Down Farm. Eventhough it was a cold, wet day we had a brilliant time. We decorated gingerbreadmen with icing and sprinkles, made Rudolph hats and Christmas cone people.

We toasted marshmallows on sticks and had hot chocolate by the campfire.

We met Father Christmas in the yurt. We sang him a Christmas song, he read us a Christmas story and gave us a present each.

We saw some animals and had fun playing in the park.

We came to school in our Christmas jumpers for the school Christmas fayre.

We made paper chains to decorate our classroom.

This week (20th Nov) we have been learning about weddings. We read The Scarecrow's Wedding story by Julia Donaldson and even had our own wedding in school! We had a pretend ceremony, cut the cake, did a dance and toasted the happy couple with squash and biscuits at the wedding reception!

This week (13th Nov) we have been learning about Remembrance Day. We walked to the war memorial in Almondsbury and all laid a poppy. We were silent for a minute to remember the soldiers and then gave them a round of applause.

At the end of the week we celebrated Children in Need.

We completed lots of Pudsey Bear activities including making masks and playing a spot colouring game.

We all came to school dressed as superheros.

We met Pudsey Bear in the school hall!

This week (6th Nov) we have had a very busy week! We began with our Party Wow Day to launch our new celebration topic 'Let's Party!'

We came to school in our party clothes.

We made party hats and decorated cakes.

In the afternoon we had lots of fun playing party games.

We have also learnt about Bonfire night and Diwali this week and have completed lots of activities to increase our knowledge and understanding of these celebrations.

We have created our own firework displays on the computer and with pretend fireworks. We have decorated Mendhi hands and made our own Rangoli patterns on the computer and using sequins and powder paint. We used salt dough to make diva lamps and explored the Diwali items.

The first week back was Book Week, this year the theme was poetry so Reception looked at Nursery Rhymes. Our key rhyme was Incy Wincy Spider which we performed to the whole school during the Book Week assembly on Friday.
