School Achievements and Performance

We have Healthy School status and were awarded a plaque and certificate. We consider this to be of great importance for today's lifestyle. We offer the 2 hours of PE we are required to and have gained Active mark for all our efforts in PE and healthy lifestyles work and learning for the past 3 years

We have a fantastic music department at Almondsbury. We have choirs and a school band. Nearly 60 children in years 4, 5 and 6 have lessons to learn how to play a musical instrument. There are 9 instruments to choose from. The children in year 3 learn how to play the recorder and we have regular concerts and performances.

The choir has won the 'Best Choir' section of the Thornbury Eisteddfod for the last five years. This is quite an achievement. This year the choir received an outstanding score! We also have quite a few boys in the choir. Who says 'Boys can't sing?'roundhouse

Our choir sang with the Harlequin Singers (a semi-professional choir from Bristol) in St. Mary's Church, Almondsbury. This raised over £2000 for our partner school in Kitgum, Uganda.

We also are the holders of Broadmead Bristol Christmas Choir of the year 2009, as well as being a Platinum Sing Up school. We also performed at the Roundhouse in London, as one of 5 schools from across England!

Our physical education is very good. The children enjoy their Wake up Shake up sessions both in the classrooms and on the school field. The children enjoy doing their exercises to the music.

We have successful sports teams and lots of sports after school clubs, including Tag Rugby, Netball, Football, Cross Country/Athletics, Basketball, Multiskills and Dodgeball. We have our own athletics t-shirts.

The children have a varicross countryed and exciting PE curriculum. We have had various sports, dance and athletics coaches into school to enhance this learning from experts.

At the end of July 2013 we applied and were successful in achieving the Gold standard for the Waste Warriors programme within South Gloucestershire. We were the first school to achieve this award! This entailed being aware of environmental issues, waste recycling and energy consumption. We were presented with our award in assembly last Friday and it will be proudly hanging in the foyer shortly. We will of course continue to strive to be as environmental as possible including encouraging walking to school, healthy eating and making sure we use less energy.
