Term 5 and 6 Information
It's great to be back for our fifth term in Year 1 and Year 2.
Timings
Our class will continue to follow these times:
Start of day: 8.55am (entering through the cloakroom door in the Key Stage 1 playground)
End of the day: 3:30pm (leaving also, through the cloakroom door in the Key Stage 1 playground)
PE
Our class PE days will continue to be on Mondays and Thursdays. Please ensure your child comes to school in their PE kit on those days. PE will take place indoors and outdoors so, please provide your child with suitable clothing for whatever weather conditions we may face!
READING BOOKS
The children should bring their book bags every day. This should include their Reading Records and school reading books.
The Year 1 children will have their reading books changed every Friday.
The Year 2 children will have their reading books changed every Thursday.
VISITING THE SCHOOL LIBRARY
The children will be visiting the school library on Tuesday afternoons. They will bring home a book of their choice to share. Please ensure your child brings their Library book in their book bags on Tuesdays to exchange for a another book.
PHONICS
The Year 1 children will be continuing to cover the Y1 Curriculum and sound patterns following the Essential Letters and Sounds programme.
The Year 2 children will be continuing to cover the Y2 curriculum and learning the alternative spelling patterns and adding suffixes and prefixes to root words, following the Essential Spelling Programme.
ENGLISH
We will starting off this term by reading the wonderful traditional tale 'The Gingerbread Man'.
MATHS
Our first unit this term is on Place Value followed by Multiplication and Division.
Our weekly Maths Attack tests will take place every Monday, We will do the same level for 3 consecutive weeks.
TOPIC
We will be starting an exciting new topic this term, 'The Great Fire of London'.
KNOWLEDGE ORGANISER
SCIENCE
This term we are learning about 'Everyday Materials', which includes:
• distinguishing between an object and the material from which it is made
• identifying and naming a variety of everyday materials, including wood, plastic, glass, metal, water, and rock
• describing the simple physical properties of a variety of everyday materials
• comparing and grouping together a variety of everyday materials on the basis of their simple physical properties.
HEARTSMART
Our Heartsmart focus is Don't forget to let love in.

COLLECTIVE WORSHIP
Our Collective Worship theme for terms 5 and 6 are Pentecost and Humility, followed by Justice.
Our British Value themes for terms 5 sand 6 are Respect and Rule of Law.
